Temporary Dyke Closure at Grand Valley Road for Flood Protection Work
Cornwallis, MB - Grand Valley residents be advised that the City of Brandon placed a temporary dyke closure on the west side of the Grand Valley Road (PR 459) and 18th Street (PTH 10) intersection is required based on current Provincial flood forecasts. Work will begin in the morning of July 2nd as part of ongoing and progressive flood mitigation efforts. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution and patience around the work zone and obey all posted signage.
The work is being carried out by Alternative Landscaping Ltd. and is expected to be completed between Thursday, July 2nd and Friday July 3rd. Residents are asked to be patient as crews work to safely and efficiently complete the project.
During the temporary dyke closure, traffic will be detoured using 34th Street North. The RM encourages drives to plan accordingly and allow for additional travel time.
Be advised to stay off the dyke system and away from closed trails, parks, and riverbank areas. High water levels, fast-moving currents, erosion, and unstable ground conditions can create significant safety hazards. Residents are asked to respect all signage, barricades, and direction from emergency personnel and RM and City staff.
Also be aware that emergency response times will increase due to closure as they will have to access the area from the north.
