PUBLIC NOTICE

Wildlife Awareness and Pet Safety – Shilo and Spruce Woods Area

Manitoba Conservation officers have received reports of cats and dogs being chased and/or killed by wildlife in the areas surrounding Shilo and the Town of Spruce Woods.

Officers have attended the area, spoken with residents, and provided information on wildlife awareness and safety. As the community is located adjacent to Spruce Woods Provincial Forest, residents may be more likely to encounter wildlife in and around their properties.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions to help reduce the risk of encounters between people, pets, and wildlife. Understanding local wildlife and taking preventative measures can help promote the safe coexistence of people, domestic animals, and wildlife.

A wildlife safety information pamphlet has been provided by Manitoba Conservation and is available for residents to REVIEW HERE. The information offers practical guidance on reducing the likelihood of wildlife encounters and responding appropriately when wildlife is present.

Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these recommendations and share this information with neighbours to help promote community awareness and safety.

Manitoba Conservation continues to respond to reports and concerns as they are received.
