Rural Municipality of Cornwallis

Additional Restrictions

Community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring

Community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring across much of the Prairie Mountain Health Region. New clusters are occurring, but can be controlled through self-isolation, testing and contact tracing so they do not spread further. The health care system is currently able to manage COVID-19 case levels, however changes in restrictions and behaviors are required to prevent further level changes.

Manitobans in the Prairie Mountain Health Region must:

    • Stay home when sick.
    • Practise social distancing, hand washing/sanitizing and cough etiquette.
    • Wear a mask in all indoor public places and at all indoor and outdoor public gatherings.
    • Follow public health guidance on travel and self-isolation.
    • Limit group sizes to a maximum of 10 people indoors and outdoors.
    • Vulnerable people, such as seniors, are encouraged to exercise additional caution.

Council of the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis will be enacting preventative measures to help slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to minimize its impact on our health care system, and our community.

First and foremost, the RM of Cornwallis would encourage all members of the public to visit:

This is the Government of Manitoba website, and is updated frequently. Also, all health-related questions or concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) can also be answered, by calling Health Links at 204-788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257, or your local health providers.

Further, the health and safety of all of our employees and the public, as well as maintaining essential services remain our top priorities. As such all Municipal facilities listed below, will be closed to the public effective immediately:

1.      Water Treatment Facilities

2.      Public Works Shops

Providing essential services such as daily production of potable water by Water Treatment Plant staff at the Chater Treatment Facility continues as per normal operating procedures, and protecting the safe operations of the facility remain of utmost importance to the Municipality.

The Municipal Office is currently open to the public with restrictions in place. To lessen traffic within the office with tax season deadline approaching we encourage our residents to use either e transfers or if you bank with a Credit Union set us up as a payee. We have set up mail box at our door for items to be dropped off during regular business hours, we will be monitoring this area and will be processing payments in a timely fashion. All receipts will be mailed if requested.

The Rural Municipality of Cornwallis is actively monitoring the situation, and will continue to evaluate and inform the public of any changes, as this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic rapidly evolves.
