The Next Municipal Election will be held on

Voters did you know...
The voters list is open for revision until September 18, 2018.  If you are new to the municipality, have moved within the municipality or have turned or will turn 18 by Election Day, you should check with he Senior Election Officer (SEO) to ensure your name is on the voters list for  a seamless voting experience on Election Day.
To be eligible to vote, a person must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on Election Day and have been a resident or owned property within the municipality for at least six months on Election Day.
Voters are required to vote within the ward in which they reside or own property to protect the integrity of the voting process, assist in assigning staff and supplies and make end of day reporting as simple and efficient as possible.  
Voting places have been arranged as follows:
Ward 1                    Municipal Council Chambers
Ward 1 & 2              Sprucewoods Community Hall
Ward 2                     Brandon Hills School
If voting on Election Day at the above locations will be difficult, advance voting will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Municipal Office located at Unit C 107191 Veteran's Way.
Should these times not be convenient for you, please contact the SEO to find out about sealed envelope voting, where a ballot package can be mailed to you, or you can visit the municipal office during regular business hours from September 26, 2018 to October 21, 2018.
Candidates did you know...
All prospective candidates must register with the SEO during the registration period, before they begin their campaign.  The registration period for head of council is May 1, 2018 to September 18, 2018.  For Councillors, the period is June 30, 2018 to September 18, 2018.
To be an eligible candidate, a person must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on Election Day, and a resident of Manitoba, a qualified voter of the municipality and not subject to disqualification under The Municipal Act or an other Act.
Nomination papers must be filed with the SEO in person by the candidate or his/her agent during the nomination period, being September 12, 2018 to September 18, 2018, during regular business hours.
Nomination paper can be obtained from the SEO.  All nominations must be supported by a number of eligible voters whose name appear on the voters list.  For ward elections, this requires at least 25 voters of the ward or not less than 1% of the voters of the ward - which ever is less.
If an election is required, the names of the candidates will be drawn by random draw on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cornwallis municipal office.


Please be advised that a general municipal election will be held on October 24, 2018.
Prospective municipal election candidates must register with the Senior Election Official (SEO) during
the registration period before they may begin to accept contributions, incur expenses, fundraise or borrow money for their campaign.

For municipal elections only, non-resident land-owners are eligible to vote in an election. In order to be eligible, the person must be:

 ·         A Canadian citizen;

·          At least 18 years of age on Election Day;

·          A registered owner of land in the municipality for at least six months on Election Day.

 A maximum of two non-resident property owners, per property, are permitted to vote in a municipal election. In order to vote, each of these voters must obtain written consent from a majority of the registered land-owners, and file this with the senior election official. Consent forms can be obtained from the senior election official, and must be presented at the time of voting.


When voting, you may also be required to provide proof of ownership to the voting official. Ensure you bring proof of ownership with you when voting.

Notice is hereby given that a copy of the VOTERS LIST may be revised at:

 The municipal office located at Unit C 109171 Veteran’s Way on or before September 18, 2018

 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Monday to Friday.

 At this time the Senior Election Official (SEO) will be available to update the voters list by:

(a)    adding the names of voters who are entitled to have their names on the list;

(b)    deleting the names of persons who are not entitled to have their names on the list; and

(c)    making such other correction of errors to the list as required.


A person is eligible to have his or her name added to the Voters List if he or she is:

1)     a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age on election day; and

2)     a resident of the local authority for at least six months prior to election day, OR a registered owner of land in the municipality for at least six months prior to election day.



In accordance with Section 25(2) of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, any non-resident voter who owns property in more than one ward is responsible to notify the S.E.O in writing, not later than September 18, 2018 of the ward in which he/she desires to vote. Failing the foregoing, the voter’s name will be placed on the list as the SEO may select.


 A voter may apply in writing to the SEO (at the address / fax number below) no later than September 18, 2018 to have his/her name and other personal information omitted or obscured from the voters list in order to protect the voter’s personal security.    The application may be submitted in person, by mail or fax and must include your name, address and include proof of identity.


All changes to the voters list must be completed on orbefore September 18, 2018.
